Making a
difference with the difference!
HERE'S HOW IT WORKS: When you make a purchase at B&B Pet Stop, your cashier will ask if you want
to "Round-Up for Charity". It will ALWAYS be less than $1.00 since
we're asking if you would round your sale up to the next dollar and donate
the difference. For example, if your total is $21.65 your cashier will
ask, "Would you like to round up to $22.00 for charity?". The extra 35
cents will then be donated to the charity of the month. You can, of course,
always donate more... just tell your cashier!
“Round-up for Charity" program is a terrific success! In
March 2007, we introduced a feature of our cash register software that
prompts our cashiers to invite customers to “round up” to the next dollar
and make a donation to a particular charity. To our great delight, we’ve
found that MOST of our customers enthusiastically say “yes” since it is
ALWAYS less than a dollar.
Since March 2007,
we have raised: $57,810.42 At
B&B Pet Stop, we couldn’t have raised this money without the generous
donations of our customers and we truly appreciate it when they say “yes”
every time we ask if they’d like to “Round-Up” for charity.
Last month you donated $1,454.25
to FRIENDS OF THE MOBILE ANIMAL
SHELTER
In July, our featured charity is
Greyhound Pets of America, South Alabama
Greyhound Pets of America is a tax-exempt, non-profit
corporation founded in 1987 for the purpose of finding
homes for ex-racing greyhounds and educating the public
on the suitability and availability of greyhounds as
pets. Greyhound Pets of America is the largest
non-profit greyhound adoption group, and since it opened
its doors in 1987 has adopted over 80,000
greyhounds into loving homes.

HOW TO BE INVOLVED:
B&B Pet Stop invites any local non-profit
group that would like to be considered for inclusion in 2011 to send
an email with the following information: name, address and
telephone number of the charity, a contact name and telephone
number, and a paragraph describing the mission of the charity. Charity must be an official 501(c) (3) corporation. (email@bbpetstop.com)
There
are some charities that are special to the Trufant Family and will
have permanent spots each year. They include The Lance Armstrong
Foundation (for cancer) and The Mobile Arts Council (Following the
example of their late mother, “J” Trufant, the family has always
been enthusiastic supporters of the arts in Mobile), as well as the
six established local pet rescue groups: The Mobile Animal Shelter,
the Mobile SPCA, The Animal Rescue Foundation, Greyhound Pets of
America – South Alabama Chapter, Azalea City Cat Coalition, and
Chaos and Critters Exotic Pet Rescue. In
December, we will put the names in a hat and draw out 4 additional charities
to fill in the other months.

For
SCHOOLS:
At B&B Pet Stop, we want kids and young adults to develop a
passion
for fish and animals and we want to make it as easy as possible for
teachers to keep pets in the classroom. We have so many animals from which to choose
- from exotic iguanas to gentle rabbits to peaceful and colorful tropical fish.
We've been helping teachers select appropriate pets in Mobile since 1981
- l
10% discount
We invite teachers to shop at B&B Pet Stop and get a
10% discount off
the total purchase. (The discount will apply to regular-priced merchandise only.)
This is for classroom pets AND for pets at home. (Please show some sort of
school ID to our cashiers)
If a teacher buys something for the school and has a
purchase order or a
school credit card then it will also be NON TAX. (By law we have to charge tax on
teacher's personal purchases!)
l
Field Trips Most mornings, we have groups of school children come through the store. We
present a half hour educational program (geared to the younger children) that includes the
opportunity to touch many of the animals. Every child gets a free coloring
book.
Field trips are also open to day care centers, church groups, scouting groups,
and others.
l
Herbie Derby The "Herbie Derby" is a hamster and gerbil "drag race"
event designed to involve kids in a fun way to raise money for Mobile Public Schools.
Hamsters and gerbils are placed into miniature, enclosed plastic racecars, the car is then
placed on a 16-foot race-track inside the store, and the first to cross the finish line
wins the heat. They are such a delight to watch as the small pets frantically race
along the track - some even become confused and race backwards to the dismay of the
children! There are great prizes to all finalists!
Mobile Greyhound Adoption Center Volunteers from
Greyhound Pets of America
come to B&B Pet Stop to explain the adoption process and to help
potential owners fill out an application. Once an application
is approved, the new owner may pick out a dog, pay a $175 fee
(covers the cost of spaying or neutering, teeth cleaning, all shots,
and a heartworm test) and take their
greyhound home.
Retired greyhound racers make great pets. Good-natured and loving, these serious
athletes have worked hard on their careers and are ready for a place to relax and a family
to love. These dogs are still young, since retirement comes early in the racing
industry.
Quarterly Rabies Shots and
Microchip Events
Low-cost rabies vaccines and
micro-chipping available at convenient times at the store.
Weekly Pet Adoption - Every Thursday Afternoon from 4-7
p.m. Customers bring in litters of puppies and kittens to
give away. Others
come in to adopt new pets. there is a $5.00 adoption fee, which goes to the Mobile
Animal Shelter Spay/Neuter fund. B&B Pet Stop Provides information packets on
general puppy/kitten care, premium pet foods, flea control, house-breaking, crate-training
and Maddies Fund (low cost spay/neuter program).
Pet Photo Events
(Easter Bunny, Pumpkin Patch, Santa Claus) Benefits:
Mobile Animal Shelter
Free baths in the Pet Wash-o-Matic for Law enforcement
service dogs We invite Law Enforcement personnel to bring their service dogs in for a free
bath in our automatic pet washing machine.
Free Goldfish Coupons
There are so many young people involved in so many extraordinary projects and
opportunities and we are asked to sponsor these actives on a daily basis. We wish we
could say yes to all of them! Unfortunately, if we sponsored one, we'd have to
sponsor everyone.
Instead we offer "free goldfish coupons" to schools, church groups, and sports
teams to use in grab bags, favors, or as prizes at festivals. We also try to be as
generous as possible to non-profit organizations supporting the arts, the schools, animal
rescue, historic preservation and other organizations that make Mobile a wonderful place
to live for everyone. We give away approximately 10,000 coupons every year!
